Because of my long hours I had been missing training days and had to rely on my senior students to take the classes for me. As a result of me not being there all the time students, including the senior belts, lost interest and were just not coming to training, even after me phoning them and trying to encorage them to train. We, the club, had neumerous meetings to decide what could be done and we came up with some solutions which I tried to install, but the lack of interest did not help. I was soon forced to pay the rent, for the dojo, out of my own pocket, which i think is a bit unfair. This is why the club was closed as it was costing me money. Why should something be paid for if it's not being used for what it is intended? If I can say more about the lack of interest, since the club has closed I have not recieved "one" phone call from the junior and senior students to find out anything about training, this says something to me!??? I tried my best over the past 2 years and 7 months (I stand to be corrected) to keep Yawarakai Ju-Jitsu S.A running at the high standared that both Greg and Ruairi ran and taught the style, but I failed... I'm sorry to say that I will NEVER be-able to meet up to the standard of both Greg and Ruairi as a martial artist and instructor. For whatever reason, there appears to be a number of Yawarakai students left without access to the proper and necessary instruction. I'm not sure why these students are being denied the opportunity to learn the style they love or why there was no mention of a crisis until after the club was actually closed, but I do intend to do my best to sort things out when I visit SA in November. Current students of Yawarakai SA or the Sandton Dojo, please email me at as soon as possible with your contact telephone numbers and names and I will contact all of you and try to work out a plan for the style to go forward in South Africa.
