Haila Gabr, 18, of Brooklyn, N.Y., allegedly stabbed Saul Hernandez, 64, to death in an Atlantic City motel. A German couple slept on the bed before asking to be moved to another room because of a foul smell. Gabr appeared in court for the first time Friday. At an arraignment before Superior Court Judge Albert Garofolo, she answered a series of questions about the charges against her and her rights as a defendant before being returned to jail, where she is being held on $500,000 bail. She has a lawyer but he was not present for the proceeding. Gabr was 17 at the time of the June 8 killing. Authorities say she met Saul Hernandez, 64, of Queens, somewhere on the streets of Atlantic City and returned with him to Room 112 at the Burgundy Motor Inn, which is located across the street from Resorts Casino Hotel. The two argued, but Atlantic County Prosecutor Jeffrey Blitz has refused to say what it was about. Gabr stabbed Hernandez to death and then stuffed the body into a wooden frame that supports the box spring and mattress before fleeing in Hernandez's car, according to prosecutors. The body lay undiscovered for two days, until two German tourists rented the room, then complained about the smell. They stayed overnight anyway, and they were moved to a different room the next day. Housekeepers cleaned the room but couldn't eliminate the smell, prompting them to look under the bed. When Hernandez's car was recovered, it contained Gabr's purse, according to Blitz. Inside was a bloody knife believed to have been used in the killing. The man was stabbed over 60 times, not a dozen. Think about that. 60 times. This girl has a history with drugs and alcohol and did not become one of your muslem "sisters" until after she had been imprisioned. She stuffed the body in the matress of the hotel room and took his car. She didn't call the police, didn't tell her stepmother (who wasn't actually there, from what I understand) anything and would never have come forward, had she not been silly enough to leave her purse in the dead man's car.
